Nutrition Guest

On Tuesday, we had a special guest come in to teach us about nutrition! Mrs. McCarthy (Owen's mom), came in and taught us that just like cars our bodies need fuel. Fuel for our body is food. If our body runs out of fuel we run out of energy. Mrs. McCarthy taught us that foods with certain ingrediencies (carrots, oranges, apples, grapes, etc.) are healthy choices and provide us with energy that lasts for a long time in our bodies. Foods like Scooby-Snacks, which have several ingredients, are "some time" food, and they are a great treat to have, but we shouldn't only have them occasionally. To end our lesson we taste tested different one ingredient and "many ingredients" food items. Below are photographs from the lesson. Thank you Mrs. McCarthy!

Mo Willems Celebration

On Thursday morning our class gathered with Mrs. Ryan’s 2nd Grade class for a Writing Celebration. We began our celebration by Mrs. Ryan reading Knuffle Bunny Free. Students then went on to share their Mo Willems’ inspired Comics! Below are photographs from our celebration.

Trick or Treat for Unicef

On Friday we counted the Trick or Treat for Unicef money in Room 6.  Students were divided into groups and worked together to count the money.  Each group had their own strategy and all were very different when they were compared to other tables.  As a class we discussed the different strategies and how everyone’s strategy works, some just find one strategy to be a better fit for their math brain compared to another strategy.  We are excited to announce that Porters Point School raised over $400 for Trick or Treat for Unicef!
