Blogging Over the Summer!?

A great way for students to stay in touch over the summer is by blogging!  Blogging is also a wonderful way for students to continue practicing their writing skills.  At least once a week I will be starting a new blog post with questions and different topics to get a weekly conversation going.  Students in my 2012- 2013 class will be able to blog until August 15th.  If you are in my 2013-2014 class and would like information regarding blogging or would like to begin blogging over the summer please e-mail me (larosen@csdvt.org) and I would LOVE give you the information or create your blog for you.

Closing Thoughts and Reminders

I want to thank all of you for making my first year at Porters Point a wonderful one.  The support I received from parents and the community throughout the school year was remarkable, thank you very much for all that you have done for me!

I have spoken with students about the importance of reading over the summer for 20 minutes a day.  If you would like a list of books at your child’s independent reading level please email me.  I also have a list of Read Aloud books that students enjoy having read to them.  If you would like a copy of that list please email me.

Students will have access to their KidBlog, Raz-Kids, XtraMath and any other accounts they accessed in 2nd grade thru August 15th.  Once I disable students KidBlog accounts students will not longer to able to access their blog.  If you would like the link to their account so you can refer back to their 2nd grade blog as the years go on, I can email that to you as well. Student’s g-mail accounts will continue with them throughout their time within the CSD.

Lastly, if you haven’t completed the Year End Survey I would really appreciate it if you could do so by Monday, June 17th.  Thank you!

Have a wonderful summer! :)

ECHO Field Trip

Our class had a wonderful day at ECHO today!  We explored the Bigger Than T-Rex exhibit where we saw a Tyrannosaurs Rex dinosaur.  We also saw Giganotosaurs which is a 45 foot long dinosaur! In addition we saw the four actual lifelike latex models used in Jurassic Park I and II.

Our class also participated in the Wetland Wonders Program.  To view a full description of the program click here.  During the program students discussed the important skills a naturalist needs; used a wetland model to determine where animals and plants live in a wetland; and  explored the regions of a wetland and simulated a wetland at night.

The video of our wetland stimulation is below.

A BIG thank you to all the chaperones who made today’s field trip a big success!
