Valentine's Day
We will be having a class Valentine’s Day celebration on Thursday, February 14th. Students are allowed to bring cards to exchange at this time. Please be sure to have a card for every student. We have 19 students in our class. If you are interested in donating an item for our breakfast click here or see the link on the classroom blog. Thank you! Click here for a class list.
World Read Aloud Day
We had a wonderful World Read Aloud Day in Room 6. We started our day by buddying up with
Mrs. Geibel’s first grade. Mrs. Geibel’s class came to our classroom and each student buddied up
with a first grade student and read their favorite book aloud to them. We then went on a “field trip”
to Mrs. Geibel’s room. Students stayed with their buddy and their buddy read their favorite book
aloud to them.

In the afternoon we visited Ms. Silverberg’s first grade. Students received a buddy and read with
the buddy for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes each student received a bookmark and decorated

Nutrition Guest
On Tuesday, we had a special guest come in to teach us about nutrition! Mrs. McCarthy (Owen's mom), came in and taught us that just like cars our bodies need fuel. Fuel for our body is food. If our body runs out of fuel we run out of energy. Mrs. McCarthy taught us that foods with certain ingrediencies (carrots, oranges, apples, grapes, etc.) are healthy choices and provide us with energy that lasts for a long time in our bodies. Foods like Scooby-Snacks, which have several ingredients, are "some time" food, and they are a great treat to have, but we shouldn't only have them occasionally. To end our lesson we taste tested different one ingredient and "many ingredients" food items. Below are photographs from the lesson. Thank you Mrs. McCarthy!

Trick or Treat for Unicef
On Friday we counted the Trick or Treat for Unicef money in Room 6. Students were divided into groups and worked together to count the money. Each group had their own strategy and all were very different when they were compared to other tables. As a class we discussed the different strategies and how everyone’s strategy works, some just find one strategy to be a better fit for their math brain compared to another strategy. We are excited to announce that Porters Point School raised over $400 for Trick or Treat for Unicef!
