A few weeks ago my sister (Hillary) came in to meet the wonderful students in Room 6 and to ask for their help with a special project. Hillary works for Homeland Security and she just moved into a new building. The building was in need of some artwork. She asked the students if they were up for the challenge of creating artwork that could be hung in the building. Hillary read a book about coming to America to give students an understanding of what her job entails (approving visas) and what type of artwork they could create to hang in the office. We had a great discussion on what it meant to be American and what non-Americans need to do to become citizens. After Hillary read the book students created rough drafts of the artwork they would be creating with Ms. Vella in art class. Ms. Vella was wonderful and students worked on their artwork for two weeks with Ms. Vella. This past Friday the artwork was complete and Hillary came to collect the pieces of art. We had a small celebration followed by a thank you treat from Hillary. Below are some pictures of our time with Hillary and the artwork we created.
