First Mystery Skype!!

Today we had our first Mystery Skype and it was a BLAST!

This afternoon our class Skyped with Ms. Cyr’s 4th grade class.  During our Skype session both classes gave clues about their location.   Yesterday, our classroom brainstormed the clues we would be giving Mrs. Cyr’s.  As a class we discussed what makes Vermont special and what clues we could give Ms. Cyr’s classroom so they could identify what state and town we lived in.
The clues our class gave were:

Our state is famous for Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream (Iris)
Our state baseball team is the Lake Monsters.  (Talan)
Lake Champlain is one mile from our school.  (Caitlin)
The best event of the summer is going to the Champlain Valley Fair.  (Nathan)
Mount Mansfield and Camel’s Hump are mountains in our state. (Peyton)
Our school is Porters Point. (Josh/Luke)
We like to play at Bayside Park.  (Madison)
Our state capital is Montpelier (Mari)
We like to play at Airport Park (Gavin)
Saint Michael’s College is in our town (Meili)
We enjoy visiting Shelburne Farms.  (Connor M.)

The clues Ms. Cyr’s class gave our class were:

1.  Our state is famous for blueberries.

2.  It is also famous for whoopie pies.

3.  Our state borders Canada.

4.  We are known as the Pine Tree State.

5.  Our town's population is 546 people.

6.  Our school is 9 miles south from UMFK.

7.  Our school is 4 1/2 hours north of our capital.

8.  Our county is the "crown" of our state.

9.  Our state gem is the tourmaline.

10. Our state has 2,200 named lakes.

11. Our state bird is the Chickadee.

12. Our state animal is the moose.

13. Our state's area is 35,385 square miles.

14. Our school is Wallagrass Elementary School.

At the end of the Mystery Skype our class guessed where Ms. Cyr’s classroom is… MAINE!  Ms. Cyr’s class gave us great clues.

Tomorrow we are going to do research as a class to find out what town Ms. Cyr’s classroom is.  On Tuesday we are going to have a follow-up Skype with Ms. Cyr’s class.  During this time we will discuss what town we believe their classroom is located in, based on our research.  During the follow-up Skype, students will also be able to ask questions of Ms. Cyr’s students.

We want to thank Ms. Cyr and her class for taking time to Skype with us!

We can’t wait for our next Mystery Skype (next Thursday at 1:30).  Videos and photographs will be posted soon :)  Parents are always welcome to join our Mystery Skypes! J
