Flat Stanley

The children in Room 6 at PPS have been reading a funny book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brow. The book is about a young boy named Stanley who is accidentally squished “as flat as a pancake” when a bulletin board falls on him.  Stanley is very, very, flat, but otherwise fine.  The story goes on to tell how Stanley discovers some real advantages to being flat.  He can slide under doors, go through sidewalk grates, and even fold himself up small enough to fit into an envelope and be mailed to California for a vacation.

On Friday, each student created their own Flat Stanley. This week we are going to send our Flat Friends all over the USA and a few may even become world travelers. Students (with the help of family members) have selected a “host family”. We are asking that each "host family" tells us about their Flat Student’s vacation with them. We are hoping to get back new information about each host family’s city and state. We would also love it if our host families took pictures with their Flat Stanley and sent them back to Colchester, Vermont.

We will be using our blog to keep everyone updated as to where our Flat Students have traveled and what they have been doing on vacation.

Author Skype with Ellen Buikema

We had a very exciting afternoon in Room 6 yesterday! Our excitement centered around Skyping with author Ellen Buikema. About a month ago Ellen sent our class her book, The Adventures of Charlie the Chameleon: New Beginnings. Once we finished the book we brainstormed questions to ask Ellen. Each student had a question they asked Ellen. This was a very powerful experience for students. Below are photographs from our Skype. A big thank you to Ellen for taking time out of her busy day to Skype with us!
